Georges Mougenot German Violin
This antique violin has a label inside saying "Georges Mougenot, Luthier du Conservatoire Royal, Bruxelles 1899".
It has been appraised by an independent expert who believes it to have been made in Germany around 1920 and has valued it at £2500.
The back is 2 peices of maple of medium curl slightly descending across the back from the centre joint in the upper half and running horizontally over the rest. The ribs have a similar curl. The pegbox and scroll are plain maple. The front is made from two pieces of Spruce of medium broad grain. The varnish is an orange-brown colour on a light yellow ground.
