Adolphe Tenor Sax Made in 1933 by Selmer
Adolphe Tenor Sax Made in 1933 by Selmer
A chance to own a bit of Selmer history. This Adolphe Sax tenor was actually made at the Selmer factory after Selmer purchased the Adolphe Sax name from Adolphe Edouard Sax.
A few years after Selmer took over the Sax factory, they re-introduced the Adolphe Sax name on a second line of instruments. Some of the first ones had parts left over from the Sax factory, but gradually the Adolphe Sax line became more and more like the Selmer New Large bore or Super saxes. According to the Selmer Paris archive records 350 Adolphe Sax saxophones were shipped to Ben Davis in London in June 1933 of which about 200 were Tenors.
This instrument has been fully restored and is in full working order. It has been fully stripped and cleaned, the tone holes have been levelled and it has been repadded with Pisoni LP Pro pads.
It plays well top to bottom and has a modern feel with a vintage sound.
